The film opens with Rafiki (
Robert Guillaume) gathering the animals of the Pride Lands together for the presentation of Simba (
Matthew Broderick) and Nala’s (
Moira Kelly) new daughter Kiara. Mufasa's spirit (
James Earl Jones) watches over the ceremony. Later, Simba becomes very over-protective of an older Kiara (
Michelle Horn), and to her dismay, he assigns Timon and Pumbaa (
Nathan Lane and
Ernie Sabella) to be her babysitters. One day while they are arguing, Kiara sneaks into the "Outlands" where she meets Scar's heir, a young cub named Kovu (
Ryan O'Donohue). After escaping a river filled with crocodiles, the two become friendly, but Simba and, Kovu's mother, Zira (
Suzanne Pleshette), find them and quickly end their playing. During a tense face-off, Zira reminds Simba that he exiled the Outsiders, and notes that if he wants to punish them, Kovu is Scar's hand-chosen successor. Unwilling to harm the cub, Simba orders them to leave and later scolds Kiara for endangering herself. In the Outlands, Zira's elder son, Nuka (
Andy Dick), complains to his younger sister Vitani (
Lacey Chabert) about Kovu's status as "the Chosen One" — the cub chosen by Scar to lead the pride after he was gone. At that moment, Zira returns and scolds both of her sons, but then decides that she can use Kovu's new friendship with Kiara to get her revenge against Simba.

A large number of animals gather around Pride Rock in Africa witnessing the arrival of
Simba, the newborn son of the lion king and queen,
Mufasa and
Sarabi. Mufasa's younger brother,
Scar, is displeased with the birth of this heir. As a young cub, Mufasa teaches Simba about being king. While touring of the Pride Lands, Simba asks about a shadowy place; Mufasa tells him it is forbidden. The lesson is stopped when
Zazu, Mufasa's
Hornbill adviser, informs him that
hyenas have entered the Pride Lands. Mufasa tells Zazu to take Simba home while he gets rid of the hyenas. Later that day, Scar tells Simba that the shadowy place is in fact an elephant graveyard. Simba's curiosity is piqued, and he convinces his best friend Nala, a female lion cub, to come with him. Sarabi sends Zazu to keep an eye on the two cubs, but they soon leave him behind. They finally reach the elephant graveyard, where they come upon three spotted hyenas,
Shenzi, Banzai and Ed. The hyenas chase after the cubs, but Mufasa rescues them. Mufasa sends Nala and Zazu back to Pride Rock, and admonishes Simba before teaching him about the stars. Simba learns that these stars represent the past kings who will always be there to guide him.

The story is a flashback of the five years (2005 to 2010) of love affair involving the characters of Allan Alvarez (
John Lloyd Cruz) and Mia Samonte (
Bea Alonzo). The opening scene was in a
Pasig River ferry boat. One of the passenger, Allan, was sad and confused if he really loved his then live-in partner, Daphne Recto (
Maricar Reyes). While another passenger, Mia, was downtrodden by family problems. To express her heartaches, Mia would write messages on stones and would leave them anywhere, Allan picked up one of those, they got acquainted and their romantic story began.
